HURON ó The Huron Tigers escaped with a 53-51 victory against No. 3-ranked Sioux Falls Lincoln on Friday at Huron Arena.

After leading by as many as 13 points in the opening half, the Tigers found themselves needing to convert on their free throws down the stretch.

The Patriots were able to tie the game at 44-44 with 5:39 remaining in the final quarter, but Huron responded with six unanswered points to regain the advantage.

Four consecutive missed free throws enabled Lincoln to cut its deficit to just a point, at 52-51, on a 3-pointer by Calvin Krause with 35 seconds to play.

Justin Decker broke the drought from the charity stripe for the Tigers by making the second of two free throws with 18 seconds to play. A turnover by the Patriots on the ensuing possession resulted in a jump ball giving possession back to Huron for the final 7.5 seconds of play.

Justin Decker led the Tigers with 17 points, including a dunk in the opening half. Will Carr also reached double figures with 10 points.

Adam Zwanziger and Alex Kopfmann both finished with nine points. Kopfmann helped Huron take control in the first half with consecutive 3-point field goals.

The Tigers held a 29-22 advantage on the boards with Zwanziger grabbing 10 rebounds. JP Noonan had a team-high three assists and two steals.

Nermin Krdzalic led the Patriots (6-3) with 18 points, while Krause finished with 15.

Huron, which improved to 7-3, heads back into action today with a 7:30 p.m. game at Brookings as part of a girlsí and boysí doubleheader.

Lincoln recorded a 69-61 victory against the Tigers in the junior varsity game Friday. Tre Henderson led Huron with 18 points and had four rebounds. Kaison Thies added eight points, while Sam Carr had seven rebounds and Peyton Carr grabbed four rebounds.

Lincoln won the sophomore game 60-47. Thies and Mason Stahly led the Tigers with 19 and 11 points, respectively. Trey Moeding had four rebounds.
