Girls’ teams put up big numbers during DOC openers

HURON — Crow Creek outscored Tiospaye Topa 53-7 in the first half and didn’t let up in the second half to come away with a lopsided 91-16 win Thursday in the girls’ Dakota Oyate Challenge.

Sophomore forward Tianna Scott led all scorers with 22 points for Crow Creek. Shanise Pease scored 18, Evaline Arrow had 14 and Megan Howe 13 for the Lady Chieftans.

Keysha Guajardo led Tiospaye Topa with 10 points.

Crow Creek moves on in the championship bracket to play Tiospa Zina today at 3 p.m. Tiospaye Topa will play Flandreau Indian School in the consolation bracket at 9 a.m.

Omaha Nation 110, Crazy Horse 29

HURON — Six players scored in double figures as Omaha Nation beat Crazy Horse 110-29 Thursday in the girls’ Dakota Oyate Challenge at Huron Arena.

Brenna Parker scored 20 points to lead the Lady Chiefs. Tyesha Parker and Donnette Blackbird scored 17 points apiece. Ona Parker added 15, Keisha Grant 13, and Keiley Miller had 10 points.

Crazy Horse was led by Shantai Philbrick who scored 15 points. Amber Lamont added eight.

Omaha Nation will play Marty in the second round today at 4:30 p.m. Crazy Horse plays Takini at noon.

Marty 74, Takini 33

HURON — Armanda Iron Elk scored 19 points and Rose Drapeau added 16 for Marty in a 74-33 win over Takini Thursday in the first round of the Dakota Oyate Challenge.

Marty led 42-13 at the end of the first half and outscored Takini 32-20 in the second half to secure the win.

Amber Red Elk and Christein Mexican led Takini with eight points apiece.

Marty moves on to the second round to face Omaha Nation at 4:30 p.m. today. Takini will play Crazy Horse at noon at Huron Arena.

Tiospa Zina defeated the Flandreau Indians 63-37 in the final game of the opening round on Thursday.

Tiospa Zina will face Crow Creek in the semifinals at 3 p.m. today. The Flandreau Indians will play Tiospaye Topa in the consolation semifinals at 9 a.m. today.
