CLARK — Ailene Ruth Luckhurst, 93, of Clark, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Lake Norden.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church at Clark. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Ailene Ruth Garey was born on the family farm south of Raymond in Logan Township on Jan. 22, 1920, to Fred “J.F.” and Gratia (Brown) Garey. She graduated from Logan Consolidated High School and earned her teacher’s certificate at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen.
She married Harlan Roy Luckhurst on May 21, 1945. She was the founding and organizing member of the Clark County Historical Society, serving as president for 29 years. In 1998 she received the Governor’s Award for History. In 2001 she was named the “Historian of the Year” in the Heartland Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 55 years, Harlan in 1998; a daughter, Virginia Haar; and siblings, Forest Garey, Verna (Harold) Wahl and Dorothy (Ernest) Lunn.
She is survived by her children, Alan (Beth) Luckhurst and Edwin (Brenda) Luckhurst both of Garden City, and the Revs. Marilyn (Eugene) Moeller of Webster; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a foreign exchange daughter, Paula Holma (Pekka Lehtonen) of Helsinki, Finland.
