D.C. Herman, 83, of Miller

MILLER — D.C. Herman, 83, of Miller, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society of Miller.

Mass will be 1 p.m., Saturday at St. Ann Catholic Church, Miller with the Rev. Chester Murtha officiating. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Miller, with military honors.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

DeWayne C. “D.C.” Herman was born Jan. 7, 1930 to Michael John and Edith (Balliet) Herman in Bowdle. He graduated from Miller High School in 1948. On Jan. 28, 1949, he enlisted in the Navy at Omaha, Neb. He served as an Aviation Mechanic until Jan. 7, 1953 ranking as an AD2.

On Aug.18, 1953, he married Mary Sommer at St. Ann Catholic Church in Miller.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He served as the 1st President of the Miller Jaycees in 1959.

He is survived by his children, Ginger (Bernie) Huisman of Miller, Tim (Lisa) Herman of Carrollton, Ga., Larry (Dianne) Herman of Miller, Jill (Bob) Laird of Sioux Falls, and Pat Herman of Miller; siblings, Ardith (Jerry) Knippling of Gann Valley and Derwin “Dewey” Herman of Cleveland, Okla.; special friend, Carolyn Beranek of Miller; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Edith; wife, Mary and step-mother, Beth.
