Bernard T. “Barney” Kerkvliet, 90, of Bryant

BRYANT — Bernard T. “Barney” Kerkvliet, 90, died Jan. 30, 2013, in the Parkview Care Center at Bryant.

His funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Bryant.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., with a Liturgical Wake service beginning at 4 p.m., all in St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Bryant.  Visitation will continue Monday morning after 9:30 a.m., also in the church.

Bernard T. Kerkvliet was born on May 18, 1922, to John and Bertha (Dubbelde) Kerkvliet at Marshall, Minn.

On Sept.19, 1946, he married Geraldine Dirckx in Marshall.  The couple started a dairy operation near Marshall. In 1958 they moved to Willow Lake and continued the dairy operation.  In 1962 they purchased a farm west of Bryant where they lived and farmed until their retirement in the mid- to late 1980’s. 

He enjoyed dancing, traveling and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Geraldine “Gerri”; one brother, Joe Kerkvliet of Marshall; children, Gary (Gloria) Kerkvliet, and Greg (Roxanne) Kerkvliet both of Bryant, Brenda (Wade) Wicks of Carpenter, Brian (Shelley) Kerkvliet of Sundance, Wyo., and Michele (Steven) Birkholtz of Willow Lake; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
