Posted: Monday, Feb 4th, 2013

SPEARFISH — A second-half rally by the Huron Tigers was thwarted by Spearfish on Friday, as the Spartans escaped with a 54-51 victory.

It was the second loss in the last three games for the Tigers, who are ranked No. 5 in Class AA.

Huron faced a 20-13 deficit after the opening quarter and scored just six points in the second stanza, allowing the Spartans to carry a 30-19 advantage into the half.

The Tigers weren’t able to make up much ground during the third quarter, but made a bid for the victory in the final quarter.

Justin Decker led Huron with 17 points and 10 rebounds. JP Noonan added 14 points, while Adam Zwanziger had seven points and six rebounds.

Hayden Busch had 19 points and six rebounds to lead the Tigers to a 68-60 victory in the junior varsity game. Kaison Thies and Mason Stahly added 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Tate Sporrer had six rebounds.

Huron also won the sophomore game 57-36.

Stahly had 12 points to lead three players in double figures for the Tigers. Thies and Trey Moeding finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Sam Carr and Peyton Carr each had seven rebounds.

Huron, which is now 10-5, will play at Sturgis today, with tipoff slated for 2:45 p.m. CST.
