HURON — Lynsey Prosser scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Sturgis Brown High School to a 53-37 win Saturday over the Huron Tigers in girls’ basketball action at Huron Arena.

The Tigers got out to an early lead, outscoring the Scoopers 18-16 in the first quarter. Sturgis would close the gap and took a two point lead, 28-26, into halftime. The Tigers hit 8-of-9 free throws in the first half and made four 3-pointers.

But Huron just couldn’t keep up with the Scoopers in the second half. Despite shooting just 20 percent from the field in the final two quarters, Sturgis used their defense to secure the win. They forced 28 Huron turnovers in the game and held the Tigers to just 11 points in the second half.

Prosser hit three shots from behind the 3-point arc and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line to finish with 26. Kahlie Peterson and Illianna Shuck each added eight points for the Scoopers. Peterson also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Tigers were led by senior guard Brittany Steffen who scored 11 points, including two 3-pointers. Jazmin Newton added seven points for the Tigers. Katelyn Allerdings scored six points and had a team-high eight rebounds. The Tigers shot well from 3-point land, hitting 40 percent (6-15) of their shots from behind the arc.
