ABERDEEN — Jim Peterson, 84, of Aberdeen, and formerly of Huron, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Angelhaus Regional Care Center of Aberdeen.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home in Aberdeen with the Rev. Daniel Domke officiating. Burial, with military honors by Sydney L. Smith Legion Post No. 24, will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.
James W. Peterson was born June 14, 1928, to Hans and Caroline (Taft) Peterson in Mitchell. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1946.
On Oct. 17, 1951, he married Naoma Wiener in LeMars, Iowa. They settled in Huron, where he sold securities. He was active in Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served as a church elder, and on various church boards and committees. He was also a member of the Huron American Legion, VFW, Lion’s Club and the Beadle County Sportsmen. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Naoma of Aberdeen; a son, Greg (Sandra); a sister Evelyn Hinders, Grants Pass, Ore.; and three granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Alice, Helen and Nancy.
The family prefers memorials.
