Wessington Springs rallies past Miller

MILLER — Sheyanne Brodkorb scored 20 points to lead Class B Wessington Springs to a 51-45 comeback win over Class A Miller Thursday.

It was a close game throughout. Miller took an early lead at the end of the first quarter, 13-12, and led 24-21 at halftime. The second half was a different story. Wessington Springs’ Cassidy Musick hit the only 3-pointer of the game, as the Lady Spartans took the lead 34-33 at the end of the third quarter.

Brodkorb would turn it on in the final frame. She hit two shots from the field and was five for six from the free-throw line, scoring nine of her team’s 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Jansen Hunter had a big night for Miller scoring 20, matching Brodkorb for the game-high total. Jamie Mentzer added 10 for the Rustlers.

Wolsey-Wessington 93, Wessington Springs 34

WOLSEY — Ryne Johnson hit five 3-pointers and was one of five players who scored in double figures for the Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds in a 93-34 win over Wessington Springs Tuesday at Wolsey.

Johnson hit five of his six shots from behind the arc and ended with a game-high 18 points. Lorenzo Williams and Roy Lumpkin each had 14 points on the night, Hayden Hooks scored 13, and Alex Babcock added 10 for the Warbirds who improved to 14-1 on the season. Ryan Sprecher grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Lorenzo Williams added seven boards. Hooks had 10 assists.

Deion Sails led Wessington Springs with 10 points.

Wolsey-Wessington returns to action Saturday as they host Aberdeen Christian at 2 p.m.
