Firefighters from Huron, Cavour and Alpena were able to collect a record amount — more than $6,500 — by ringing bells for The Salvation Army on the streets of Huron Friday, Dec. 14. Presenting the check in the Huron North Fire Department are, from left, Howard Alter, Captain Eric Johnson and Don Burdick. Firefighters have been going out each Christmas to collect money for The Salvation Army for the last 52 years and have raised $119,797 to date. The Salvation Army appreciates their support in helping others in this county meet their basic needs. The Salvation Army would like to thank the 32 firefighters who each volunteered three hours to raise this record-breaking amount. Thank you also to the Huron community for their donations on that day. They are appreciated and many will be helped with those funds.
