WOONSOCKET — Darrell Dean Worth, 89, of Woonsocket, and formerly of Gettysburg, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg, with the Rev. Jerry Kopel officiating. Burial of his cremains will follow in the church cemetery.
Darrell Dean Worth was born May 16, 1923, in Gettysburg, to John and Robbie (Harvey) Worth. He graduated from Gettysburg High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1944.
On May 19, 1949, he married Dorothy “Dottie” Bichler in Los Angeles, Calif. In 1962 they moved to Gettysburg, where he worked as a carpenter, farmer and attendant with the local Cenex Station. In October 2011, they moved to Woonsocket.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV,
He is survived by his children, Gary (Carol) Worth of Huron, Robbie (Randy) Kogel of Sioux Falls, and Tom (Donna) Worth of Woonsocket; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his sisters, Florence Stankey, Myrtle Mertz, Kathryn Mangin, Lucy Worth, Lorrayne Schnurrer and Dorothy J. Worth; and his brothers, Robert, Wayne and Quentin Worth.
