Huron gymnasts claim 8th at state

RAPID CITY — Rapid City Central successfully defended its title on Friday during the team competition at the Class AA State Gymnastics Meet, which was held at Rapid City Stevens.

The Cobblers used a score of 151.700 to finish ahead of Watertown to claim the championship. The Arrows finished with 145.850

Mitchell was third in the 12-team field with a 141.975, followed by Sioux Falls O’Gorman at 138.450, Brookings at 137.125, Aberdeen Central at 135.175, Yankton/Bon Homme 134.125 and Huron at 134.00.

Gymnasts from all 12 teams will return today for the Class AA individual competition, which also will be held at Rapid City Stevens.

Chelsey Christensen of Rapid City Central will be defending her titles in the uneven bars and floor exercise, while Colette Christensen of Rapid City Central is the defending champ in the vault, balance beam and all-around.

Competing today for Huron will be Hailey McCune, Jordan Waldner, Jessica Waldner, Kelsey King and Tessa Musil.

A total of 101 gymnasts are slated to compete in the Class AA state meet.
