Cyclones win title in 3A

CLARK — Top-seeded Clark-Willow Lake held No. 3 Florence-Henry scoreless in the opening quarter en route to a 63-32 victory in the District 3A title game on Tuesday.

The Cyclones, who improved to 17-4, led 24-16 at the half and carried a 49-20 lead into the fourth quarter.

Chynna Stevens finished with 25 points and had 20 rebounds to lead Clark-Willow Lake. Also reaching double figures were Mackenzie Huber with 18 points and Mikayla Prouty with 10 points.

Whitney Schaack and Taylor Busskohl led Florence-Henry with eight and seven points, respectively.

De Smet 79, GPL 26

DE SMET — The De Smet Lady Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 3 in Class B, earned a spot in the District 3B title game with a 79-26 victory against Great Plains Lutheran on Thursday.

Amanda Poppen had a game-high 19 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 20-1.

Rylie Osthus also reached double figures with 14 points, while Taylor Schoenfelder had nine points and Kelli Aughenbaugh and Kelsey Poppen each added seven points.

Amanda Poppen also led De Smet to a 43-31 advantage on the boards, with eight rebounds. Grayson Gruenhagen recorded a team-high seven assists, while Osthus had seven steals.

Alyssa Maertz was the lone player to reach double figures for Great Plains Lutheran, which ended the season at 7-15, with 12 points. Alexa Andree finished with eight points, while Jordan Zeck added five points.

De Smet will face Estelline, which edged Castlewood 38-37 in the district’s other semi-final game, at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Swiftel Center in Brookings for the 3B championship.
