REDFIELD — Ruth Virginia Mannie, 85, of Redfield, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Burial Mass will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Redfield. The Rev. Christopher Hughes will officiate. After a time for lunch and fellowship, the burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 7 with a rosary at 6 p.m. and the family present starting at 4 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.
Ruth Virginia Mannie was born Sept. 6, 1927, to Tom and Esther (Johnson) Haney in Aberdeen. She received her teacher’s certificate from Northern Teacher’s College in Aberdeen, and worked as a teacher in several country schools.
She married Robert Allen Eppard on Jan. 21, 1950. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlepoint, reading and dancing. She enjoyed watching lawrence Welk every Sunday.
She married Marvin Mannie on December 30, 1993. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband Marvin Mannie of Redfield, her six daughters, Julie (Lance) Fuhrman of Mellette; Cindy (Terry) Akin of Mellette; Peggy (Duane) Zimmerman of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; Laura (Steve) Mogck of Parkston; Sue (Alex) Wilson of Ada, Okla.; and Barb (Tim) Muellenberg of Bloomington, Ill.; her three sons, Bill (Cassie) Eppard of Aberdeen; Dan (Nicki) Eppard of Cottage Grove, Minn. and Doug (Julie) Eppard of Presho; 38 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson and two sisters, Phyllis Spear and Madalyn Stoltenberg. Visit www.thelenfuneralhome.com
