RACA to feature comedic pianist

Posted: Monday, Mar 18th, 2013

Peter Simon, comedic pianist

The Redfield Area Concert Association is pleased to present the third performance of the RACA 2012-2013 concert series, Peter Simon. This extraordinary entertainer and comedic pianist will take to the stage Monday at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be in the auditorium of the S.D. Developmental Center in Redfield (handicapped accessible using the west entrance). Admittance is by membership in RACA.

Parking is available on the S.D. Developmental Center campus using the Grace Schafer and Food Service parking lots north of the auditorium. Refreshments will be offered at intermission.

In Redfield, rides to this performance are available by calling Jerry Hansen at 472-1463 by Sunday.

Compared to the humor of Victor Borge and the talent of Liberace, Simon brings a hugely entertaining show.

He has established himself as one of America’s finest musicians and most distinctive and versatile musical personalities. This award-winning musician expresses both the serious and lighter side of classical and popular music in an original and colorful style. Among the music you may hear in a performance are “Rhapsody in Blue” by Gershwin, “Claire de Lune” by Debussy, “Hungrian Dance No. 5” by Brahms and “Sabre Dance” by Khachaturian.

On the lighter side, variations of the Mexican children’s song “La Cucaracha” and “Chopsticks,” as well as familiar songs such as “Danny Boy” are all possibilities in this Redfield performance.

A Peter Simon Show makes for a delightful evening of fun, laughter and exquisite music that all ages can enjoy.

The last RACA performance for this season will be Saturday, April 20, when New Odyssey comes to Redfield for a 7:30 p.m. performance. This group, billing itself as “three guys and 30 instruments,” will provide another great show everyone will enjoy. Concert patrons are also reminded that an RACA membership allows admittance to remaining concerts presented by the Huron and Pierre Concert Associations. In Huron, the Abbey Road Band, a Beatles tribute band, will perform on Thursday, April 18, while in Pierre two performances remain. Wilson & McKee (Celtic/contemporary acoustic artists) will present on April 1, and a John Denver tribute show, “Take Me Home,” takes the stage April 18.
