Man gets time served and probation for aggravated assault in 2011

Posted: Wednesday, Mar 20th, 2013

HURON A 26-year-old man has essentially been sentenced to time served for aggravated assault involving his wife in a case that initially included charges of attempted murder and kidnapping.

The case stems back to December 2011 when Thoung Sing was arrested for allegedly strangling, beating and tying up his then-pregnant wife, Ku Paw, in their downtown Huron apartment.

Police were notified by medical personnel after the victim was transported to Huron Regional Medical Center.

Sing pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault and Circuit Judge Vince Foley sentenced him to eight years in the state penitentiary.

The sentence was suspended and Sing must serve probation for 10 years.

He will be released from the Regional Correction Center Friday after having been in jail for 471 days.

Sing originally pleaded guilty but mentally ill. He was found incompetent and sent to the Human Services Center in Yankton for treatment for four months before he was returned to jail.
