Chamber and GHDC honors three at annual meeting

HURON — The Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau along with Greater Huron Development Corporation held their annual meeting Thursday night in the Plains ballroom.

After introducing outgoing and incoming members of the board and a meal, three awards were handed out to recognize the special efforts in the community.

The family of Wayne and Jeanie Hofer were honored with the Family Business Award for their business at A-1 Auto Body Inc. The award was presented by both Bryan Smith vice president of lending with Dakotaland Federal Credit Union and a member of the Prairie Family Business Association.

The second award given out was the Distinguished Civil Service Award given to outgoing Huron Mayor David McGirr. He was presented it by Heartland Region United Way’s Executive Director Rhonda Kludt.

McGirr handed out the final award given, which was the Mayor’s Award for Excellence, that went to American Bank & Trust.

Lynn Schneider the president and CEO of the bank accepted the award but also asked the Steele family to join him on stage to be recognized. The Steeles are the current owners of the bank.

Patrick McGaughey, (featured in the story above) is an international business speaker and gave the keynote address to close out the night’s festivities.
