LAKE PRESTON — Donald O. Stevens, 88, of Lake Preston, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church in Lake Preston, with the Rev. Wanda McNeill officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Preston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston, and before services in the church on Thursday.
Donald O. Stevens was born on March 15, 1925, to Carl J. and Edna (Anudson) Stevens in Erwin. He graduated from Erwin High School. He enlisted in the Navy on July 28, 1945, and served until December 1947 during World War II.
He was a World War II veteran, and went on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in May 2010.
He married Beverly Haufle on July 6, 1952, at Lake Preston. He was a school board member, Lake Preston City Councilmen, Lake Preston Lutheran Church member and councilman, Masonic Lodge member and member of the American Legion for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Lake Preston; daughter, Tammy (Wes) Steiner of Parker; sons, Tim of Lake Preston, and Todd of Brookings; a brother, Eugene Stevens of Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Alma Bergmann of Westgrove, Pa.; grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Edna; sisters, Irene and Ruth; and one brother, George.
