HURON — Gertrude Troth, 95, of Huron, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Wessington. Visitation with family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Welter Funeral Home with a 6 p.m. prayer service; or one hour prior to the funeral service.
Gertrude Maurine Callison was born March 28, 1917, to William and Cora (Grace Pinney) Callison in Plankinton. After graduating from Rapid City High School, she attended Black Hills Teacher College.
She married William Troth on May 25, 1938, in Greeley, Colo. She taught at country schools and in Wessington. She and her husband were members of the Rose Hill Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for several years.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (Carla) Troth of Columbia, Mo., and James (Judy) Troth of Wessington; a daughter, June (Don) Fernholz of Wadsworth, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Troth of Cherokee, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William in 2003; a daughter, Phyllis; a son, William Jr.; a brother, Grove Callison; and two sisters, Dora Johnson and Mildred Connor.For the complete article see the 03-28-2013 issue.
