TEMPLE, Texas — Willie E. Risby Sr., 70, of Temple, Texas, died on Thursday, March 7, 2013, in a Temple nursing home.
Services were held Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Temple.
Willie E. Risby, Sr., was born Sept. 28, 1942, in Temple to Robert L. Risby and Dorothy Williams. He attended Temple schools and graduated in 1961 from Dunbar High School. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Bishop College in Dallas for two years and Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas.
He accepted Christ at an early age, and attended Zion Temple Church of God in Christ.
He married Carole Joan White on Jan. 29, 1965.
He was a member of Huron Christian Church for more than 10 years.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Andranette (Randy) Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio, Vonda (Anthony) Tyson of Garland, Texas, Joan Monique Heyward of Washington, D.C., and Gwendolyn Risby of Temple; two sons, Willie Earl Risby Jr. of Temple, and Jason Paul ( La Tonya) Risby of De Soto, Texas; nine sisters, Sarah Williams (Namon) Jefferson of Smithville, Texas, Vernetta (Joe) Williams of Bastrop, Texas, Joanna Williams of Houston, Nina Denise Williams of Atlanta, Vera (Aaron) Toliver, Pamela Risby, and Debra (Jessie) Clinton, all of Temple, Sheila Risby of Hutto, Texas, and Ailene Lewis of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Dewayne Risby (Anita) of Pflugerville, Texas; sister-in-law, Shirley Risby of Killeen, Texas; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
