Kleinsasser up for NAIA honor at Northwestern

Samantha Kleinsasser OF Huron has been selected from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) for the NAIA Emil S. Liston Award.

The Emil S. Liston award named in honor of the NAIAís first executive secretary and the prime mover behind the menís basketball tournament, this award has been presented annually since 1950 to one junior menís and womenís basketball player who has shown high athletic and scholastic achievement. Each NAIA conference is able to nominate one student-athlete for this annual award.

A three-year letterwinner for the Northwestern College womenís basketball team, Kleinsasser was named second team all-conference after averaging 12.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season. The junior shot 50 percent from the field and led the team with 44 blocked shots, ranking third in the GPAC in both statistical categories.

Kleinsasser helped lead Northwestern to a 26-8 overall record and a national tournament berth where they lost in the semifinals.

Also an outstanding student, Kleinsasser is a nursing major with a cumulative grade-point average of 4.0. She earned second team CoSIDA Academic All-American honors as well as being named an NAIA Scholar Athlete.
