DE SMET — Jean Haufle, 91, of De Smet, died on March 29, 2013. Funeral services are set for Wednesday, 11a.m., at American Lutheran Church in De Smet. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet.
Jean Curley was born on Jan. 17, 1922, and grew up in the Manchester community. She graduated from De Smet High School in 1939. She then worked for J.C. Penney in De Smet.
She married Boyd Haufle on June 6, 1944. The couple lived in South Carolina on a military base while Boyd was in the service. She worked in the cafeteria on base. They returned to De Smet and bought the Ritz Café and Theatre which they operated for thirty years. Later she began a new business, Jean’s Flower Shop, which she ran for years until she retired.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Twenty Club, PEO, and the American Lutheran Church. She was active in ELCW, serving on many committees during her life.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her husband Boyd, her parents; two sisters, Phyllis and Viola; and one brother, Willard.
