DE SMET — Alice E. Palmlund, 82, of De Smet, died on March 29 at a Sioux Falls Hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at American Lutheran Church in De Smet. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet. Alice Elisabeth (Bau) Palmlund was born on Oct. 19, 1930, to Harry and Anna (Gehm) Bau on the homestead of her grandparents in Mathews Township, De Smet. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
She graduated from De Smet High School in 1948. She attended General Beadle College and Black Hills State. She taught school at the Van Hoek School in Spirit Lake Township for three years.
She married Levi Palmlund on June 29, 1951.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sons, Steve (Teresa) Palmlund and Neil (Donna) Palmlund both of De Smet; three daughters, Shirley (John) Nelson, Brookings, Janice Palmlund of Sioux Falls, Audrey Kolbeck of Yankton; one son-in-law, Terry Danielson, Glyndon; three sisters, Doris Freese, Howard, Martha Fischer of Salem, and Carol (Dan) Haaland, Gary; one brother, Robert (Linda) Bau of North Glenn, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Ruby Maley, New Mexico, Mona Schlagel of Clark, Marlene Bau of Madison; 14 grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Levi; a daughter, Nanette; her parents; one sister, Mary Grothe; one brother, Harry Bau; and an infant brother. For the complete article see the 04-02-2013 issue.
