WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Robert Patton, 88, of Wessington Springs, died Monday evening, April 1, at his home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ in Wessington Springs with the Rev. Sara Olson Dean officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military honors by the Wessington Springs American Legion and the South Dakota Army National Guard. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Basham Funeral Home with family present.
Robert Levi Patton was born Jan. 28, 1925, to John and Eunice (Anderson) Patton in Southeast Hand County.
In 1945, he joined the United States Army as a paratrooper.
He married Beth Bernice Knight on Oct. 4, 1947, at the Congregational parsonage in Wessington Springs.
He was the Jerauld County Veteran’s Service Officer for 15 years; he was a member of the Wessington Spring School Board, Chamber of Commerce, Fire Department, Kiwanis Club, American Legion, Free Masons, and a Deacon of the United Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister (Elinor); two brothers, Joe and Newell; three sisters, Della Tiede, Emma and her husband Harold VanBockern, Ruth Arnott; sister-in-laws, Donna (Hawkins) Patton, Helen (Horsley) Patton; one nephew, and a grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Beth; two brothers, Lester and Paul (Dorothy) Patton; one sister-in-law, Eloise (Naser) Patton; four children, Lynn J (Martha), Janet Easton (Roger), Diane, and Blake (Loretta); eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.For the complete article see the 04-04-2013 issue.
