HURON — Police have arrested a Huron woman and her three children for identity theft following the theft of bank funds allegedly using unauthorized account information.
Sgt. Brandon Neitzert, public information officer, said Shelley Freeman, 49; David Freeman, 26; Danny Freeman, 24; and Shaelynn Freeman, 19; have been charged with identity theft, a class six felony which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine.
Neitzert said law enforcement authorities allege that the Freemans gained access to bank account and Social Security information for a number of local residents and used the information to request that funds be transferred into an account used to make withdrawals.
He said additional charges may be pending.
