Staff and students at Holy Trinity Catholic School are excited for the start of a new fundraiser to close the school year.

Father Terry Anderson, Pastor at Holy Trinity Catholic School & Parish, will be biking across the state of South Dakota (from south to north!) to support Catholic education at Holy Trinity Catholic School. He will have a biking partner on this trip — Father Mark Lichter, Pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Yankton, will be along on the bike ride to raise funds for his school as well. They are competing to see who can raise the most money for their schools, which will be a bit tougher for Father Terry, as there are 158 students enrolled at Holy Trinity as opposed to 390 students at Sacred Heart. But Holy Trinity is up to the challenge — take a look at the website for this bike race: www.twopriestsonbikes.com!

The bike race will begin on Thursday, April 25, on the Nebraska/South Dakota border at Yankton. They will get a warm send-off from Sacred Heart Catholic School students, and they’ll be on their way! They will bike to Tyndall on April 25, from Tyndall to Parkston on April 26, and will return to their parishes on the weekend of April 27-28 for Masses and to drum up support for their schools.

They will resume on April 29 from Parkston to Mitchell, on April 30 from Mitchell to Huron, on May 1 from Huron to Redfield, on May 2 from Redfield to Aberdeen, and if all goes well, they will finish the race on Friday, May 3, on the North Dakota border. Students from both schools will be collecting pledges for each mile of their journey across South Dakota. Pledges can be donated to either school online at the www.twopriestsonbikes.com website.

Father Terry’s bike journey across South Dakota was inspired by the “Walk Across South Dakota,” which was a fundraiser held by the school in 2011. At that time, one of the Holy Trinity parents walked across the state of South Dakota from west to east, and raised just under $7,000 for the school. Father Terry decided that he and Father Mark could do the same thing for their respective schools with their bikes, and the Bike Across South Dakota was born.

Holy Trinity students will be following Father Terry and Father Mark’s journey through Skype phone/video calls to the students. In addition, Father Terry will be talking to Shawn Martin at Big Jim 93.3 radio to let the folks in Huron know about his journey and the progress they are making.

All monies raised through donations will be used to support Catholic education at Holy Trinity Catholic School.  Anyone interested in donating to the Bike Across South Dakota or obtaining more information should access the website www.twopriestsonbikes.com or contact the school office (352-9344).
