DE SMET — Eleanor Nelson, 100, died at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in De Smet on April 20, 2013. Her memorial services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in De Smet. Inurnment will be in the De Smet Cemetery.
Eleanor Klein was born on Feb. 25, 1913, in Rock Valley, Iowa to Ernest and Addie (Moeller) Klein. She grew up on the farm and attended country school near Rock Valley. She graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1929. After graduation, she moved to De Smet with her parents.
She married Sidney Nelson on June 25, 1931. They made their home on farms in the area for many years. She worked as a cook at the high school for twenty years. Her favorite hobbies were cooking, baking and gardening. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in De Smet.
She is survived by three sons, Boyd, of De Smet, Keith (Joanne) of Florence, Ore., and Dennis (Pat) of Fowler, Colo.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sidney; two brothers, Arnold and Wallace; and four sisters, Verna, Viola, Marcella and an infant sister, Ethel.
