National Piano Playing Auditions planned: Event will be Friday and Saturday at Riverview United Methodist Church

The National Piano Playing Auditions will be Friday and Saturday at Riverview Methodist Church. The National Guild of Piano Teachers, Teacher Division of the American College of Musicians, sponsors this event.

Throughout the United States and abroad, more than 100,000 piano students will participate in the annual National Piano Playing Auditions, which are held in more than 880 music centers. Students will strive for local, district, state, national and international honors based upon their performance of repertoire for a professional adjudicator chosen by the national organization.

The adjudicator of the local auditions will be Mildred Juel of Brookings. Juel is a graduate of the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a bachelor of music degree in piano. She maintained a private studio for more than 35 years and has served as accompanist for SDSU faculty and students, several musicals, church choirs and professional musicians. Juel has served as an adjudicator for various contests and festivals and for the National Guild of Piano Teachers.

Katrina Baltzer, Kevin Baltzer, Allyson Boomsma, Katie Davis, Tierra Decker, Elisebeth Dickson, Grant Duvall, Brylee Eden, Lindsey Friedrichsen, April Hamilton, Nicole Hamilton, Elaine Hines, Frank Hines, Cassandra Koel, Anna Kruse, Kami Love, Sloane Mack, Brooke Mallon, Megan Rawstern, Erin Scheibe, Abby Thomas, John Waldner, Benjamin Ward, Emily Wedel, Jessica Wegenke and Alexander Zell, all students of Beverly Bigge of Huron; and

Katherine Ayala, Rebeca Ayala, Tenley Buddenhagen, Gracelyn Fast, Kerstyn Fast, Shiny Rose Htoo, Lindsey Leyendecker, Lilly May, Landon Mohr, Shiara Noyes, Jaclynn Rogers, Josee Schwartz and Shelby VandenHoek, all students of Brenda Ruedebusch of Huron.

Established in 1929 by Dr. Irl Allison, the first auditions were held at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. The national headquarters is maintained in Austin, Texas. Beverly Bigge is the local chairperson.
