WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Floyd “Melvin” Fuerst, 84, of Wessington Springs, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Westkota Manor in Wessington Springs. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, with the Rev. Michael Bagnall officiating . Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.
Floyd “Melvin” Fuerst, son of Solomon and Pauline (Koenig) Fuerst, was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Jerauld County.
He entered the army on March 13, 1951, and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 1, 1953. He served in the Army Reserve for an additional eight years after his discharge.
He married Marilyn Jacobs on June 27, 1954, in White Lake. He farmed in Jerauld County and later drove truck. He also repaired televisions in the Wessington Springs area.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Wessington Springs; six children, Craig (Linnea) Fuerst, Mitchell, Cindy (Roland) Degen, Sioux Falls, Dawn Fuerst, Rapid City, Rickie (Rama) Fuerst, Huron, Scott (Melanie) Fuerst, Pierre, Tricia (Robert) Miller, Brandon; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
