Students participate in Americanism Essay

Students from grades four, six, eight, 10 and 12 from James Valley Christian School took part in the American Legion Americanism Essay Contest organized by the Thompson-Madsen Auxiliary of Carpenter.

The title of the essay was “What Freedom Do I Enjoy the Most?”

Students with local first-place winning essays each received $5. They include Seth Mendel, fourth grade; Mitchell Wipf, sixth grade; Kedric Brantner, eighth grade; and Julie Loewen, 10th grade.

Local second-place winners each received $2 for their essays. Taking second place were Josiah Bishop, fourth grade; Chelsea Hofer, sixth grade; Lauren Rink, eighth grade; and Ryan Burket, 10th grade.

District level winners were Loewen, Wipf and Mendel, and they each received an additional $10. Their essays were sent on for state competition.
