HURON — The Huron School Board approved the contracts of two new administrators at its May 13 meeting.
Gay Pickner of Pierre was named the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment & Accreditation; and Kari Hinker of Huron was named the Director of English as a Second Language & Federal Programs.
The new administrators will officially begin their duties on July 1.
Pickner replaces 17-year Huron educator Darci Love, who has accepted a position as principal of the kindergarten through second grade Elementary Center in Marshall, Minn.
Pickner has been the Director of Assessment for the S.D. Department of Education for the past several years, and is completing her doctorate in curriculum and instruction.
She and husband, Barry, have two grown children, Tyler and his wife, Megan, and daughter Annabella “Bella” in Pierre, and Kyle “Bumper” of Sioux Falls.
Hinker replaces Cindy Niederbaumer, who has accepted a position as principal at James Valley Christian High School in Huron.
Hinker has taught for 17 years in the Huron School District, teaching in the elementary, middle and high school, and she has a master’s degree in English as a Second Language.
She and her husband, Dave, have five children, Justice, Tye, Jayci, Tanner and Teegan.
