HURON ó South Dakota moms serving in the military in war-torn Afghanistan got special Motherís Day hugs from Rep. Kristi Noem, R-S.D.
Noem and six other women in the House flew to Afghanistan to meet with the troops and see for themselves how the draw down is going, she said Thursday.
Afghan security forces have taken over a lot of the leadership, she said.
She said the delegation received updates on the threat level, where the violence is occurring and how the troops are faring as they transition into a supporting role in the country before coming home.
Noem serves on the House Armed Services Committee which has oversight duties over the military.
She said many moms are making sacrifices by serving in the military and protecting the United States. Some of the mothers the group met with are from South Dakota.For the complete article see the 05-17-2013 issue.
