FAULKTON — Garry Cunningham, 67, of Faulkton, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013.
Burial Mass took place yesterday at the Faulkton High School Gymnasium. A prayer service was held at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Faulkton.
Garry Cunningham was born March 21, 1946, to John and Evelyn (Alldritt) Cunningham in Aberdeen.
He taught at Cresbard School from 1968 to 1974. He then spent six years in the Army Reserve. In 1970, he moved back home to Faulkton and was the Industrial Arts teacher in the Faulkton School from 1974 to 2006, and a substitute bus driver. He coached midgets, teeners, and junior legion baseball in Faulkton. He also coached boys basketball, girls basketball, football and golf for Cresbard and Faulkton Schools.
He married Irene Kaatz, his wife of 44 years, in Buchanan, N.D. on Dec. 28, 1968. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, playing cards, bowling, hunting and working at his cabin.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, of Faulkton; his sons, Darin (Lara) Cunningham, of Yankton, and Brice (Nicole) Cunningham, of Faulkton; daughter, Deena Cunningham, of Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Dale, of Colton and Bob (Leanne), of Mina; and one sister, Karen (Gary) Hanson, of Bloomington, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Evelyn, an infant sister, Kathy, sister-in-law Beverly (Becker) Cunningham, brother-in-law Gene Kaatz and nephew Grant Kaatz.
Donations may be made to the Garry Cunningham Memorial Fund at Dacotah Bank, Faulkton.
