Flowers, fountains, finches and friends. This describes the setting of dual winners of the “Pride of Lake Byron” feature yard award — Brian and Marilyn Ford, and Reiny and Karen Fuerst. The Fords have lived at Lake Byron 18 years and have a special interest in landscaping with flowers and shrubs. The Fuersts have pink Asian lilies drawing attention to fountains — some of which feature wood sculptures of eagles, carved by a local artist. A stairway created using bricks salvaged from Huron University leads to a large carving of Smokey the Bear created in Custer. Lighthouses give their yard a nautical flair. Both couples have received gift certificates to East River Nursery for the further enhancement of their yards, and the sign honoring their award from the Lake Byron Development Association, www.lakebyron.org.
