HURON ó Kent Arment of Aberdeen and Doug VanLiere of Madison inked their first main event wins of the season on Saturday at Dakota State Fair Speedway.
Arment claimed his victory in the WISSOTA late model feature race, which included some tense moments for fans as Chad Becker of Aberdeen rolled his car.
Arment finished in front of Huronís David McDonald, who was looking to capture his second straight main event win at the Huron oval. Steve Grabow of Milbank was third, followed by Brian Diede of Huron, who is the current points leader in the late model division at DSFS. Curt Gelling of Aberdeen rounded out the top five in the feature race.
Becker, who is fourth in the late model points standings, was disqualified during the main event for rough driving, which resulted in him rolling his car.
Becker and McDonald won the late model heat races.
VanLiere ended Dustin Arthurís string of consecutive victories at three on Saturday in the WISSOTA super stock main event.
VanLiere crossed the finish line just in front of Arthur of St. Lawrence to claim his first feature win of the season. Lorin Johnson of Miller was third, followed by Jeremy North of Huron and Doug LaVoy of Ree Heights.
North and Johnson won the super stock heat races.
Mike Stearns of Hecla found his way toVictory Lane for the second time this season in the WISSOTA modified main event on Saturday at DSFS.
Stearns held off a challenge by Chad Olsen of Hendricks, Minn., for the top spot in the feature race. Dale Ames of Huron turned in a solid performance, finishing third, while Jay Triplett of Brookings and Kip Myers of Ethan were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Ames and Jordan Foster of Henry were the winners of the modified heat races.
Although he came up just shy of capturing a victory in the modified main event, Olsen was able to find his way to the Winnerís Circle in the WISSOTA Midwest modified division.
It was the second Midwest modified feature win of the season at the Huron track for Olsen.
A pair of Miller drivers were second and third, respectively, in the Midwest modified main event with Johnson finishing as the runner-up, and Brad Kopecky following him across the finish line.
Rounding out the top five in the Midwest modified feature race were Corey Elward of Mitchell in fourth and Britt Williams of Fort Pierre in fifth.
Olsen and Scott Sroufe of Brookings won the Midwest modified heat races.
Chris Serr of Aberdeen topped the 10-car field in the WISSOTA street stock feature race to record his second win of the season at DSFS.
Blayne Baloun of St. Lawrence was second, with Doug Songer of Huron finishing third. Broc Stout of Winner was fourth and Dave Brooker of Tulare was fifth.
Serr also won the lone heat race in the street stock division.
Racing will return to Dakota State Fair Speedway on Saturday, with the Advantage RV Modified Dirt Tour making a stop in Huron. Joining WISSOTAís top modified drivers for the 7 p.m. event, will be the WISSOTA Midwest modifieds and street stocks.
