Ivan Trowbridge of Huron has been selected as the 2013 Friends of Rodeo recepient and will be honored during the 24th Annual Heartland 4-H Rodeo today at the Heartland 4-H Rodeo Arena on the east edge of Huron.

Trowbridge has volunteered at the rodeo since its inception, whether it be swinging gates, holding goats, pushing calves or whatever he was asked to do. He was also instrumental in the design of the grandstand cover at the rodeo ground and has been a constant presence throughout the years.

Trowbridge and his wife, Maria, have four children — Chris, Chad, Casey and Viola, and three grandchildren — Ashton, Luke and Mikaela.

He expressed how happy he was to be involved from the beginning of the Heartland 4-H Rodeo and is happy his family became involved while they were growning up.

In addition to helping with the rodeo, Trowbridge is also involved with the youth bowling committee and is a part of the Hall of Fame.

He is currently employed at Broadland Creek Golf Course and enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, golfing and is a fan of stock car racing.

The Friends of Rodeo Award was established in 2003, when the Huron Sertoma Club approached the Heartland 4-H Rodeo committee about establishing an annual traveling trophy. Each year the previous recipient returns the bronze rodeo statue and is given a plague by the Sertoma Club.

Award winners will be individuals, families or organizations located in the Beadle County area, which have contributed socially, economically or culturally to the betterment of the immediate Beadle County area with heavy emphasis on youth rodeo and other equine activities.

Past Friends of Rodeo Award winners, include Ben and Cindy Aasby (2003); Earldene Greenfield (2004); Bev and J.D. Lynd (2005); Herman and Jeanne Bauder (2006); Charlie and Shirley Farrell (2007); Ron and Kathy Curr (2008); Gary Peterson (2009); Warren Barton (2010); Lois Wood (2011) and Mike and Mary Farrell (2012)

This year’s presentation will be made today during intermission at the Heartland 4-H Rodeo. The rodeo is open to the public with no admission fees being charged.
