HIGHMORE — Marie LaFortune, 103, of Highmore, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at the Highmore Health, Highmore.
Burial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Highmore with the Rev. Paul Nereparmpil officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Highmore. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marie Catherine Morse was born March 31, 1910, in Huron, to George and Bridget (McWeeny) Morse. She graduated from Huron High School. She was employed in various federal, state and local offices, and later by the City of Huron.
She married Lionel LaFortune of Highmore on Jan. 9, 1946.
They farmed in Hyde County until retirement. She later worked at SuperValu for several years. She was active in youth groups as a playground supervisor, Girls Scouts leader and counselor for junior Catholic Daughters.
She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, VFW auxiliary and the Golden Age Club.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lionel in 1997; and sister, Ethel (Edward) Jones in 2001.
