WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Leona M. Eagle, 95, of Wessington Springs, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Christ in Wessington Springs with the Rev. Sara Olson Dean officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., with the family present, at the Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 7 p.m.
Leona Madge Deskins was born Dec. 7, 1917, to Andrew and Lois (Crist) Deskins on a farm in Crow Township, Jerauld County. She attended elementary school at Nelson School and high school at Wessington Springs High School. She attended Wessington Springs Junior College and took a teaching course.
She married Theodore (Ted) William Eagle on June 15, 1940, at the Templeton Church. They farmed in Harmony Township and she was a substitute teacher. They moved into Wessington Springs in 2005. She entered Prairie View Care Center in 2010.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and working on the farm.
She is survived by her children, James (Pat) Eagle of Wessington Springs, Bonnie (Merlin) Feistner of Woonsocket, and Deanna (Daniel) Runyan and Gary (Mary) Eagle, both of Rapid City; 14 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.
