Huron woman chosen as Credit Union ‘Volunteer of the Year’

Bonnie Geyer, CU Volunteer of the Year

HURON — Bonnie Geyer of Huron was recently chosen by the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas as the Credit Union Volunteer of the Year.  Bonnie currently serves as the Secretary of the Dakotaland Board of Directors. Prior to that, she served on the Supervisory Committee from March 1998 until her election to the board in 2004.

Bonnie Geyer is an outstanding board member for Dakotaland Federal Credit Union.  As a volunteer, she attends all board meetings, and is prepared and interested in the success of the Credit Union. She participates in all training and also attends the credit union chapter meetings.  In 2012, Bonnie was instrumental in supporting Dakotaland Federal Credit Union by partnering to provide financial education to students throughout the state.  Geyer also worked to partner with a grant through the National Credit Union Foundation to provide financial education through a game called “Real Life Fortune” at local, district, and state camps throughout the summer reaching young people from age 6 to 20.  Bonnie has set up a mock Credit Union each year at Farmer’s Union State Camp and stresses the importance of using cooperatives, supporting cooperatives, and being an educated and informed consumer.  She is always striving to communicate the credit union philosophy to everyone she interacts with and acts as a role model to many across our state. 

 Bonnie Geyer has worked for South Dakota Farmers Union for the past 31 years and serves as the State Education Director. Bonnie grew up on a farm in the Manchester area and graduated from Iroquois High School. She has a business degree from Northern State University and Business Education Degree from Huron University.  Bonnie is also a board member for South Dakota Ag in the Classroom, is active on the Huron Chamber Ag Committee and is a 2002-2003 Leadership Huron Graduate.
