HURON ó- For Aaron Pass, from Kaufman, Texas, a Championship Bull Riding (CBR) win has been a long time coming, and winning the Road to Cheyenne event at the Red Wilk Construction CBR Bull Bash couldnít have come at a better time.
The two-time CBR World Finals qualifier is getting married in three weeks and the $22,000 that he won here will surely come in handy. The Bull Bash is the first of 16 events on the Road to Cheyenne Tour. By virtue of his success here, Pass will also be at the forefront of the 2014 world standings.
In the first round of competition, he received a re-ride and got on MySpace from Dakota Rodeo/Berger-Struve and scored 88.5 points to move to the semi-finals. There he came off of Collom Bucking Bullís Ringo and didnít get a score, but rode long enough to advance to the final round of four. Only two of 12 riders from the semi-finals had scores, so the two who had the longest riding times filled the last two slots, including Pass.
That is where the magic happened and again it was aboard a Dakota Rodeo/Berger-Struve bucking bull named Booger Red. Booger Red was also named bull of the event. The ride was worth 90.5 points and $21,500 for Pass.
ďAnytime you get to get on Chad Bergerís (partner in Dakota Rodeo) bulls, youíve got a chance,Ē Pass said. ďIt feels good and now that 17-hour drive home wonít seem so long.Ē
This is the 10th year that the South Dakota State Fair has opened with the Red Wilk Construction CBR Bull Bash. A near capacity crowd was very enthusiastic in spite of record setting high-temperatures and humidity.
The next event on the CBRís Road to Cheyenne Tour is the Don Johnson RAM Bulls on the Border Bull Bash in Los Fresnos, Texas, on Sept. 14.
