ALPENA — Jack Link’s Beef Jerky in Alpena recently held its annual Employee Appreciation week at the Alpena plant.

Employees were recognized for their efforts throughout the year through various prize giveaways and company sponsored meals culminating with a picnic under a big top tent.

In conjunction with the activities of the week, a charity fundraiser was also conducted. Employees were invited to participate through contributions by voting for the plant management team members that they wanted to be “Sasquatched,” which included dumping honey and fur on his or her face to look like Sasquatch.

Melinda Salas and Laura Peterson were voted as the team members to be “Sasquatched.” Members raised $11,000 during this fundraiser. The funds raised were split between two charities — Melinda Salas’s choice of charity was the South Dakota Special Olympics, which received a check for $5,500, and Laura Peterson designated the Children’s Care Hospital as her charity of choice, and a check for $5,500 will be presented there as well.
