HURON — The Huron School District has released its upcoming agenda for Monday evening’s meeting and a pair of items concern the district’s legal matters surrounding the resignation of former Superintendent Ross Opsal.
Under the Reports to the Board listing, item “E” is titled Circuit Court on Ex-superintendent’s Contracts.
The district’s legal counsel, Rodney Freeman, has his name listed by the report.
Further down in the agenda under Old Business the first item of business is to “consider action regarding litigation on sealed agreement with former superintendent.”
The board said in a statement this spring that it preferred to release the agreement before the ruling of Circuit Court Judge Jon Erickson but felt it had a legal obligation to defend the sealing of the agreement without the permission of the other party, Opsal.
Attempts made by the district to persuade Opsal to agree to the unsealing of the agreement have been unsuccessful.
Erickson has made his ruling agreeing with the Board of Examiners ruling that the document is public record.
However, the district has not received the official order to release the document and are likely waiting for that order to protect themselves from possible further litigation.
While the board still has not received the order, should that happen prior to Monday night’s meeting the board then could consider action on the matter. For the complete article see the 09-06-2013 issue.
