Junior Achievement of Huron is proud to announce that Bryan Smith, Dakotaland Federal Credit Union, is serving as the board chair for the 2013-2014 year.
Pam Browning, First National Bank, was recently elected to the JA Huron board.
Other members serving on the board include Jim Bigelow, Broadland Creek Golf Course; Jed Klein, Klein Appraisal Services; Kristin Kline, Center for Independence; Jill Luque, American Bank & Trust; Denis Mahowald, BW Insurance; Steve Ochsner, Huron Community Campus; DK Osier, Performance Radio; Kelly Rotert, Huron School District; Lisa Snedeker, Dakotaland Federal Credit Union; Chris Studer, South Dakota Farmers Union; and Laura Willemssen, Huron School District. The Junior Achievement of Huron board was established in 1998.
More than 40 JA volunteers from the Huron business community entered 40 public and private classrooms in the Huron School District during the 2012-13 school year. These classroom volunteers served as role models and taught nearly 1,000 students about personal finance, entrepreneurship, and work readiness using hands-on activities to supplement standard classroom curricula. In addition, nine executive-level volunteers impacted 161 high school students with ethics education through JA Excelling through Ethics.
Junior Achievement has been operating in South Dakota since 1968 and serves more than 47,000 students with more than 2,200 South Dakota classroom volunteers. Junior Achievement of South Dakota has volunteer-delivered programs for students in kindergarten through high school, which introduce work-readiness concepts in an experiential learning format.For the complete article see the 09-06-2013 issue.
