YANKTON — The Huron boys’ golf team finished 11th at the Yankton Invitational, which was held Friday at the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.
Yankton turned in a score of 299 on its home course to edge Sioux Falls Lincoln by two strokes for the top spot. Sioux Falls O’Gorman was third at 308, followed by Aberdeen Central at 319 and Sioux City East at 324.
Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Max Donohue carded a low round of 69 to win the medalist honors on Friday. Ben Prisbe of Sioux Falls Lincoln and Jace Guthmiller of Yankton both finished at 71 to claim second and third, respectively.
Rounding out the top five were Cameron Huff of Aberdeen Central in fourth with a 73 and Parker Klitzke of Sioux Falls Lincoln with a 74.
After posting a 44 on the front nine, Nolan Wiegel shaved five strokes off his score on the back nine to lead Huron with an 83. He finished 33rd in the 113-golfer field.
Cole Peterson was 49th for the Tigers at 85, while Riley Goeller was 52nd at 86.
Rounding out the lineup for Huron were JP Noonan at 89, Colin Claeys at 91 and Brandon Haber at 108.
