WATERTOWN — Eugene “Gene” A. Ronke, 45, of Watertown, died Sept. 27, 2013, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Blessed Sacrament Church in Florence with the Revs. Doug Binsfeld and Joseph Puthenkulathil officiating. Carolyn Maag will be the organist with LeeAnn Maag as song leader. Mass servers will be Lincoln Stuwe and Olivia Flemming. Lectors will be Janelle Olesen and April Entringer. Visitation with a scripture service was held Monday at Wight, Comes and Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Burial will be at the Esterly Cemetery, rural Florence. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene’s nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Dean Flemming, Warren Ronke, Bryon Gaikowski, Wayne Stuwe, Doug Entringer and Craig Atkins.
Eugene Adam Ronke was born to Eugene A. and Joan M. (Gaikowski) Ronke on May 18, 1968, in Watertown, South Dakota. He grew up in the Florence area, attended school in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1986. He then received a degree in Agriculture Business from Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown. Gene married Kristy Atkins on July 29, 1989, in Huron, South Dakota. He was employed at Persona as a welder for many years until 2008 when his health would not allow him to continue.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed raising sheep, putting up hay and playing all types of games, especially Scrabble. He was also an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.
He is survived by his wife, Kristy and their children, Samantha, Ashley and Adam Ronke, all of Watertown; sister, Janine (Wayne) Stuwe of Hoven; brothers, Warren (Lisa) Ronke of Tyndall and Dean (Jenny) Flemming of Madison; his brother-in-law, Doug Entringer of Colman; his mother, Joan (Pike) Hemp of Florence; his parents-in-law, Leroy and Sandy Atkins of Huron, and his brother-in-law, Craig (Bonnie) Atkins of Watertown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; his brother, Wesley Ronke; his sister, Sandy Entringer; his stepfather, Bernard Flemming; and his godchild, Quintin Stuwe.
Wight, Comes and Sogn Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
