DUBUQUE, Iowa — Dorothy M. Olson, 90, of Dubuque, Iowa, died Sept. 28, 2013, at Heritage Manor in Dubuque, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Dorothy Olson was born in Huron to Oscar and Lillian (Rude) Olson on Jan. 15, 1923.
She married Gordon Olson on June 1, 1947, at the First Baptist Church in Huron. She graduated from Huron High School in 1940. She received her graduate nursing degree at Sioux Valley Hospital of Nursing in 1945 as well as a B.S. degree in nursing education at South Dakota State College in 1946. As an RN at Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux Falls she worked as an instructor and supervisor in the pediatric department.
She was a member of St Mark’s Lutheran Church for 38 years. She served as president, treasurer and committee chair during her 30 years with Church Women United. She served as county 4H leader and volunteer. She was treasurer of the Dubuque County Women’s Food Service for 20 years at the annual Dubuque County Fair. She served as a precinct election official for 30 years in Dubuque County and city elections.
She is survived by three sons, Larry, of Platteville, Wis. James, of Hazelton, Iowa and Steven (Sue) of Asbury, Iowa; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon; four brothers, Donald, Harlan, Arthur, Robert and one sister, Eleanor.
