PIERRE – Technology grants totaling $200,000 have been issued to 22 Community Anchor Institutions in South Dakota.
Local recipients and grant levels include Horizon Health Care of Howard, which has a clinic in Huron, $10,860; Wessington Springs School District, $5,056; and YWCA of Huron, $12,481.
The program is part of the federal Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunication and Information Administration’s State Broadband Initiative.
A key initiative goal is to increase broadband utilization.
“Broadband technology can support successes in economic development, energy efficiency, agriculture, education and health care across South Dakota, and these grants will help assist community institutions across the state with just that,” said Jim Edman, deputy commissioner for the state Bureau of Information and Telecommunications and project manager for the initiative. For the complete article see the 10-25-2013 issue.
