HURON — A flu vaccine clinic and point of dispensing (POD) exercise will be conducted by the state Department of Health Huron office and the Beadle County emergency manager Wednesday at the Huron Middle School.
The clinic will offer flu vaccine for middle school and high school students from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
From 4 to 7 p.m., free flu shots will be available to all parents or guardians accompanying children. The department provides the vaccine free of charge for children 18 and under.
PODs are intended to rapidly dispense medications to a population in the event of a pandemic or other emergency.
Local emergency managers and the Department of Health have established PODs at locations around the state and routinely exercise their operation as part of ongoing preparedness efforts.
Each POD relies heavily on volunteers to manager the operation including the dispensing of medications or vaccines.
Anyone with questions about the Huron flu clinic and POD exercise can contact the Department of Health at 353-7135.For the complete article see the 10-27-2013 issue.
