“A Television Christmas” is the theme for the 21st anniversary of the Huron Parade of Lights. The popular holiday event will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m.
The Parade of Lights Committee of the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau is asking businesses to start planning early this year in hopes of a successful event. Any type of entry is welcomed, providing that it is well lit and highly visible. New this year, the Parade route will begin at Market Street and Dakota Avenue and end at 21st Street in the Coborn’s parking lot.
Floats have the option to park in the Coborn’s parking lot for display for one hour after the event. The People’s Choice voting will now be done through an online Facebook poll where parade spectators have the option to vote from wherever they watch the parade. Visit www.facebook.com/Huron to stay up to date on the People’s Choice voting process and guidelines. Glow necklaces are back by popular demand and will be distributed by street guard volunteers.
The Parade of Lights committee also recognizes a Christmas Lane each year in honor of the tradition of neighborhoods developing lanes in holiday themes. To make Huron the “Christmas City,” the committee asks that Christmas Lanes be set up prior to the Parade of Lights on Friday, Nov. 29, and remain lit until 10 p.m. nightly through Christmas. A Christmas business is also recognized, as well as a Clark Griswold Award, which is judged on the more lights the better.
Interested participants can find Christmas Lanes information and parade registration forms online at www.huronsd.com/paradeoflights, by calling 352-0000 or they are available at the Chamber office. The cost to enter the Parade is $5 per entry. Award categories include: Best Animation, Best Portrayal of Parade Theme, Best Lighted, Most Creative, Best Portrayal of Your Business, Best Non-Profit Organization and People’s Choice.
Award winners will be announced on Facebook and at the December Chamber Mixer on Dec. 10 at 5:15 p.m. at the South Dakota Farmers Union, as well as submitted to local media. For the complete article see the 11-03-2013 issue.
