As United Way Heartland Region watches its goal thermometer, which has now reached 50 percent, steadily rise, they look forward to it rising even more with the help of the Walker’s Flower Shop.

Walker’s Flower Shop of Huron has continued its support of United Way Heartland Region with its annual Rose Fundraiser this year. Roses will go on sale Thursday at 8 a.m. at Walker’s Flower Shop. Limited quantities are available. All proceeds will be used to benefit the 47 programs and projects across Beadle and Kingsbury counties funded by the Untied Way. Among the many programs and initiatives that United Way supports are the Imagination Library, Delta Dental Bus, Day of Caring and the Back Pack Program.

Meanwhile, the United Way Heartland Region looks forward to reaching its goal of $275,000 to help fund these programs and initiatives.

This will be the 16th year that Walker’s Flower Shop has supported United Way Heartland Region. “We continue to sponsor the Rose Promotion for the United Way Heartland Region because we believe in the mission and philosophy of what the UW does for our community,” said Ann Edleman of Walker’s Flower Shop. “We encourage people to continue the spirit of giving through the rose campaign by keeping one rose for yourself to enjoy and give the remaining 11 to 11 other people.”

“Board members are elated with the progress that has been made in the community,” said executive director, Rhonda Kludt. “[Walker’s] has been an instrumental pacesetter business, helping the UWHR help others in the community by giving 100 percent of the proceeds raised to the United Way.” “United Way Heartland Region is incredibly grateful to all those who have made it possible for us to reach the halfway mark,” said UWHR President Christopher Nohr. “We are encouraging the community to help us help others as we strive to reach the $275,000 goal by the end of the month. Thanks to businesses like Walker’s Flower Shop for coming forth year after year to help the UW campaign. They and so many other businesses in town believe in what we do and our success would not be possible without them.”
